Delta Gamma: Here for Good
We’re here to prove that hope is more than a wish — it is our clear, confident vision for a better way. We’re here to foster real, genuine sisterhood. Because we believe it can transform women’s lives and that together – women can transform the world. We’re here to pursue the same fearless vision our Founders established on a Mississippi campus over 140 years ago.
We’re here to “Do Good.” For each other, for the universities that invite us into their families and for the communities we call home. Because when we “Do Good,” everyone we touch does better.
In Delta Gamma, our values give us the courage to believe in something bigger than ourselves, and a sense of conviction to act on what we believe.
Because that’s the Delta Gamma way.
“A Club of Mutual Helpfulness”
In the winter of 1873, Anna Boyd Ellington, Eva Webb Dodd and Mary Comfort Leonard founded Delta Gamma in Oxford, Mississippi, at the Lewis School for Girls near the University of Mississippi. Anna, Eva and Mary were in pursuit of creating a club of mutual helpfulness. Before determining a name for their club, our founders identified our Fraternity’s mission, “Do Good.”
Our Founders sought to maintain high ideals and standards and to encourage intellectual growth and service in order to exemplify college women at their best. They chose the letter “H” as their emblem to signify hope. Later, the “H” was replaced with the anchor – the age-old symbol of hope. Within a few years, Delta Gamma collegiate chapters were established in the north, and later spread even further.
Today, Delta Gamma chapters are located throughout North America and Europe, with more than 240,000 initiates who share the strong bonds of sisterhood for a lifetime.

Hear from a few of the members from some of our newest DG Chapters!
“Delta Gamma is a sisterhood devoted to finding lasting friendships, ensuring diversity and inclusion, serving others, and, of course, doing good. As a founding member, it was beautiful too see how a single group of women could work together to create a successful chapter devoted to each of these things. Joining DG has truly been one of the most rewarding decisions of my college career, and has helped me discover the type of woman I want to be.”
-Jordan Miller, Eta Tau Chapter of Delta Gamma Founding Member
"Delta Gamma is a sisterhood unlike any other. As a founding member, it was truly amazing to watch a complete group of strangers come together and form such an inseparable bond. DG is devoted to “doing good” and loving others and I am blessed to be a part of this mission. Joining DG has honestly been one of the best decisions that I have made in my collegiate career and I can’t wait to see what else it has in store for me.”
-Brooke Moore, Eta Chi Chapter of Delta Gamma Founding Member
Delta Gamma is a sisterhood that promotes "Doing Good" in a variety of ways and forms, such as promoting diversity, helping others, and becoming the best women we can be. As a founding member, I have watched a group of women with different passions and experiences come together to find common values and ways that we can "Do Good" together. I am so blessed to have found Delta Gamma because my sisters push me to be a better student, sister, leader, citizen and woman. My college experience has only been enhanced by being a part of such a wonderful organization, and I'm honored to say I'm "anchored for life".
